The science of acupuncture is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine. For thousands of years the people of China have appreciated it for its non-pharmaceutical treatment, simple application, wide range of use, good curative effect, and low cost. Over its long history Acupuncture has been continually revised, substantiated and perfected. Acupuncture can be effective for the treatment of physical pain/discomfort as well as chronic illness, hormone imbalance, depression and/or anxiety, fatigue, and allergies. Other forms of treatment include: weight loss/management, quitting tobacco use, fertility, menopausal symptoms, and chemotherapy-related symptoms.
Acupuncture treatment is the insertion of very fine surgical quality needles into specific points on the body. Acupuncture needles are FDA approved medical devices, they are factory sterilized and sealed, used only once and then disposed of. Acupuncture points are chosen on a complex theory of physiology and diagnosis.
Today acupuncture is being studied around the world using a variety of modern testing procedures. The consensus is; acupuncture successfully addresses most disease states and a wide variety of symptoms. You be the judge.

Each of our independent providers has a vast skill set. You can find more about their individual styles by visiting their bios here or on our website centerformindbodyspirit.com (click on our logo above for more info). Here are examples of the wide variety of massages available:
Swedish Massage
The term “Swedish massage” refers to a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage feels good, is relaxing and is invigorating. It affects the muscles, glands and circulation, while promoting health and well-being. It also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested in a regular program for stress management. It also has many specific medical uses.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either following or going across the fiber’s of the muscles, tendons and fascia. Because many toxins are released, it’s important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body. The purpose of Deep Tissue Massage is to “unstick” the fibers of a muscle while releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, while relaxing and soothing the muscle. It is both corrective and therapeutic.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot Stone Massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, heated stones. It is a deeply soothing, relaxing form of massage. The heat helps tight muscles release. Before you arrive, the massage therapist sanitizes the stones and heats them in 120 and 150 degree water. The therapist uses traditional strokes of Swedish massage while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another. The therapist might also leave heated stones in specific points along your spine, or in the palms of your hand, or even between your toes to improve the flow of energy in your body. Note: Hot stone massage is more expensive than a basic Swedish massage because it requires more preparation and usually runs longer.
Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu is a hands-on therapy technique originating in Japan. The thumbs, palms, and fingers (no knees or elbows are used in the foundation form of shiatsu therapy) are used to apply pressure to designated areas of the body. This promotes good health by “stimulating the body’s energy flow (Ki)”. The session often begins with gentle stretching and manipulation techniques to help stimulate the movement of energy and to relax the muscles. Pressure can be applied to both wide areas as well as precise points and varied according to the body’s needs. Sometimes the pressure can be deeply stimulating. The amount and type of pressure depends on the specific needs of the individual.
Prenatal Massage
Massage therapy during pregnancy is a great complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and swelling. In addition, massage for pregnant women reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension — which aids in better sleep — and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.
Hand and Foot Reflexology Massage
Reflexology is a therapy based on the principle that there are small and specific areas of innervation in the hands and feet that correspond to specific muscle groups or organs of the body. In this system, the nerve endings in the extremities provide a “map” of the rest of the body. Examples are the base of the little toe representing the ear, or the ball of the foot representing the lung. Through the application of pressure on particular areas of the hands or feet, reflexology can promote benefits such as the relaxation of tension, improvement of circulation, and support of normalized function in the related area in the body.
Therapeutic, Repetitive Use Injury Massage
Repetitive-Use Therapy is a unique injury therapy that combines compression, extension, movement, and breath to give the therapist a tool to provide, in many cases, relief from pain in one treatment. When the scar tissue from the injury is broken up, the muscle is lengthened, muscle memory is restored and relief from pain starts immediately. The main reason for the success of Repetitive-Use Injury Therapy is that it is a way of treating the injury, and the resilient adhesions and scar tissue. When this therapy is used regularly, it not only prevents injuries, it helps to achieve a speedy recovery.
Myofascial Release Massage
Myofascial Release is a tender mixture of stretches and massage techniques. Derived from the the Latin words “myo” – meaning muscle, and “fascia” – for band; myofascial release therapy releases tension from the fibrous bands of connecting tissue (fascia). Myofascial release therapy aims to free constrictions or blockages in the fascia, thereby alleviating problems with connective tissue scarring or injury. Myofascial release therapy can be used to treat back pain, frozen shoulder, fibromyalgia, headaches, chronic fatigue syndrome, menstrual problems, incontinence, tennis or golfer’s elbow, shin splints, sprains, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle spasms, whiplash injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome. Furthermore, myofascial release can be administered to children suffering from birth trauma, head injuries, cerebral palsy and scoliosis.
CBD Massage
We are using a high quality, Colorado grown, CBD oil in all of our CBD massages. It is organic and contains only the flowers and extracts from the hemp plant, not the seeds, stalks, or stems. CBD can be incorporated into several types of massage, including Deep Tissue, Swedish, Therapeutic, and Myofascial.
Chi Nei Tsang - Abdominal, Visceral Massage
Chi Nei Tsang integrates the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of our being. Chei Nei Tsang literally means “working the energy of the internal organs” or “internal organs chi transformation”. CNT uses all the principles of Kung-Fu and Tai-Chi-Chuan known as Chi-Kung; therefore, CNT is a form of “applied Chi Kung”. CNT practitioners are trained in Chi-Kung and work mainly on the abdomen with deep, soft and gentle touches; to train internal organs to work more efficiently.
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a type of bodywork that focuses on the gentle manipulation of the cranial bones, spinal column, and sacrum to alleviate stress and pain. There are several types and approaches within CST, each with its unique techniques and philosophies but at the core is the belief that the body is dynamic, continually in motion, and self correcting. At The Center, we host practitioners that practice Traditional/Upledger CST and Biodaynamic CST.
Upledger CranioSacral Therapy: Developed by Dr. John Upledger, this method emphasizes connecting with the rhythm of the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord and all of the nerves. Therapists use light touch to detect this rhythm, assess the body vectors, allow the treatment to flow from the client’s organic intelligence and seek to correct restrictions in this system.
CST professional Eileen Kinsella says, “As a more conventional science oriented method, the Upledger Craniosacral practitioner applies anatomically detailed palpatory skills to support the body to release, recalibrate, and restore mobility at various levels from cellular, tissue, organ to system levels.
This therapy embraces the body as dynamic, continually in motion and self correcting.”
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST): This approach is centered on “energy anatomy” and focuses on the body’s inherent healing processes and the subtle motions of the body’s fluids and tissues. Therapists “listen” deeply to these movements through light touch – often focused on but not limited to the head, spine, and feet – and support the body’s natural tendency toward health and balance. The BCST therapist follows the body’s lead, creating a supportive environment for the body’s own healing processes to unfold. Clients often report that the BCST experience reminds them of Reiki energy healing.
CranioSacral therapy can decrease stress from chronic injuries as well as provide relief from migraine headaches, neck and back pain, TMJ (the inflammation of the joint that connects the lower jaw to the skull) and more. Performed on a massage table, the client is fully clothed and the touch is generally light and sometimes still. The treatment is focused on supporting the health of the whole being, especially the nervous system.

Biofeedback with Vibrational Healing
Biofeedback is a process whereby electronic monitoring of a normally automatic bodily function is used to train someone to acquire voluntary control of that function. It measures stress levels and then trains you to reach a deeper inner calm. Your progress is measured over time.
Lou Callen combines Biofeedback with Vibrational Healing for an ultimate experience.

Lymphatic Bodywork
Lymph Drainage Therapy is a gentle, light-touch, noninvasive technique that is a natural complement to existing health care protocols. Within the context of breast care, LDT can help alleviate numerous conditions related to pregnancy, including engorgement, sore nipples (transient, chronic), plugged ducts, wounds, fissures, ulcerations, bruises and dermatitis (eczema). This therapy also can provide relief from chronic inflammation and pre- and post-surgical applications, and can be used for cosmetic applications, such as mastoptosis, scars and traumas.
Somatic Experience
Somatic Experiencing was developed by Peter A. Levine, PhD to address the effects of trauma. Levine developed this approach after observing that prey animals, whose lives are routinely threatened in the wild, are able to recover readily by physically releasing the energy they accumulate during stressful events. Humans, on the other hand, often override these natural ways of regulating the nervous system with feelings of shame and pervasive thoughts, judgments, and fears. Somatic Experiencing aims to help people move past the place where they might be stuck in processing a traumatic event.
Though many people who experience traumatic events recover completely, for those who do not, unresolved trauma can lead to larger mental and physical health concerns, such as post-traumatic stress (PTSD), sleep problems, mood swings, or immune system problems. Somatic Experiencing aims to restore the body’s ability to self-regulate in order to achieve balance and integrity. The SE practitioner will help the client find places of safety, whether that be a place in the body that is not activated by the trauma, or a physical place to retreat to in one’s mind. Experiencing the sensations related to the traumatic event in a safe way allows a person to fully process the trauma. Clients also achieve heightened awareness of their physical responses to stress, and this skill can serve them in everyday life.
